There seems to be a trend lately in the Coaching world that is spreading throughout our news feeds like a rat carrying the plague: the high luxury business coach movement. 

You all know what I am talking about: Business Coaches posting pictures of their Prada bags, their Louis Vitton shoes, sitting in a pool of money…good lord if I see one more of those pictures my brain just might explode.

Now, if luxury is your thang, do it and do it proudly, but what the high luxury coaching movement is doing is creating a one-size-fits-all style of branding. In order to be deemed successful as a business coach, you have to show that you own all of the designer brands, fly on all of the private jets, own a Ferrari, and eat at fine dining restaurants every day of the week.  

It’s not that this lifestyle isn’t obtainable to all Coaches. I believe that anyone can reach the income that they desire! But some people full-on do not WANT this style of luxury. 

They don’t want to spend money on a handbag or eat a six course tasting menu every night. 

They want a more simplistic lifestyle - but they’re afraid to showcase what they truly want because it doesn’t fit into this little box of luxury the Coaching business world has created. 

That, my dears, is a crock of fucking shit.

The Moment I First Realized I F*cking Hate The Luxury Business Coach “Ideal”

I will never forget the day I was being interviewed on another Coach’s Podcast and somehow, we started talking about luxury style Coaching.

She said: “My last Coach was a luxury Coach and one day she asked me what my dream car was. I told her it was a Honda Odyssey, and she replied, ‘No, but really what is your dream car.’ I tried to explain to her that a Honda Odyssey really was my dream car. I have four kids and getting them in and out of our current car is a hassle. The Odyssey has so much room in it.  I can climb in and help each kid out without having to crawl over the seats, without having to lay on one of my kids. It would be amazing. My coaches reply? ‘You aren’t dreaming big enough.’”

EXCUSES ME?!?! 

Yes, her Coach actually fucking said that, and I just about fell out of my seat in that moment. 

Who the fuck has the audacity to tell someone they aren’t dreaming big enough because their dream is different from their own? ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY no one. 

Your dreams are exactly that: YOUR DREAMS. Just because you would rather fly coach to Disney than fly a private jet to Mykonos doesn’t make that dream any less significant.

How One-Size-Fits-All Luxury is Hurting The Business Coach World

This whole idea that luxury is one-size-fits-all is causing a ripple effect in the Coaching realm, and not a good one. It is causing business Coaches to hide their victories, celebrations, and goals because they feel they aren’t deemed “good enough” compared to luxury Coaches.  

Why should they celebrate a $3k launch, when it isn’t a $20k? 

Why should they celebrate paying in full for the new roof on their house, when it isn’t a Gucci bag? 

Why should they be grateful for their Facebook group hitting 100 people when it’s not 10,000? 

This is causing so many Coaches to keep quiet about their success which in turn causes them to be frustrated and eventually fade into the graveyard of business Coaches once in the online space.

Why Anyone Wanting to Become a Business Coach Should Strive for Middle Class Luxury

But what if we tried something different? What if we tried to showcase a different side of Luxury? MIDDLE CLASS LUXURY. 

Middle Class Luxury isn’t $200 bottle of Dom Perignon and Caviar. 

It’s tacos and margaritas at your favorite Mexican restaurant. 

It isn’t Christian Louboutin heels and Prada purses. 

It’s Target sweaters and Rae Dunn coffee mugs. 

It’s celebrating the fact that for the first time in your life, you don’t have to stress out whether or not the bills will be paid.

It’s celebrating the family vacation you have always wanted and now you get it because of all of YOUR hard work. 

It’s celebrating EVERY MOTHER FUCKING DOLLAR you’ve made in your business, not just the “big” milestones. 

It’s celebrating that you have “ONLY 20 PEOPLE” in your Facebook group and those 20 people are now 20 potential clients, customers, buyers. 

It’s celebrating the hot water heater leaking all over your floor and you being able to buy a brand new one, paid in full with installation (happened to us last week) and not worry how the fuck you are going to pay for it. 

What I Hope Every Business Coach Knows:

Just because your definition of luxury is “different” does NOT mean it’s wrong. 

We shouldn’t feel not good enough because our business isn’t meeting luxury standards. 

We shouldn’t feel any less than. We should be PROUD AF about EVERY little accomplishment we have made. 

Every penny, nickel, person, client, everything. 

If the high-end luxury movement makes your stomach turn, your eyes roll, or causes some terrible reaction in your soul, then don’t do it. Just because it works for some Coaches, doesn’t mean it will work for you. 

The true beauty of being a business Coach is finding what DOES work for you and capitalizing off of that. Showcasing your style, your message, and your brand to the masses to create an impact that leaves a positive ripple effect onto the world. 

We all don’t fit into the same box, thank God, and we shouldn’t try to. 

Showcase your style of luxury to the world. Celebrate the fuck out of yourself and your business at every level. Middle class luxury should be filling our social media feeds, letting everyone who sees it know that they can celebrate life to its fullest. 

Dream as big as you want, ladies, and no dream isn’t good enough.
